James Sands has returned from loan and signed an extension with New York City FC, keeping him at the club through 2027. Sands was on loan with Rangers FC in Scotland and should be available to head coach Nick Cushing on the weekend against Chicago Fire.
"I am excited to return to New York," said Sands. "As someone who grew up in New York and played for local youth teams and the NYCFC academy, it was and continues to be a great honor to represent the club."
Sands was the first homegrown player signing in the team's history back in 2017 and made a total of 76 appearances for the club before moving to Rangers in the 2022 season. While there he made 24 appearances, solidifying his place as a member of US Men's National team as well. Under Gregg Berhalter, Sands has played in 13 games since being selected back in 2021.
"I'm excited about the club's vision for the future and I hope I can use my experience abroad to help the club achieve its goals and bring home some more silverware for our incredible fans."
