New York City FC have announced the signing of their newest designated player, Santiago Rodriguez from Montevideo City Torque in Uruguay. The 23 year-old spent two seasons on loan with the MLS club, now making his move permanent.

"Over the last two seasons Santi developed into one of the most impactful attacking players in MLS," said Sporting Director David Lee. "He has an extremely bright future ahead of him and at 23 years-old, we know he will continue to develop and improve."

Rodriguez joined the club in 2021 on loan from his Uruguayan club and made 40 starts in 2021 and 2022. Over that time he scored seven goals and assisted on 14 others. He was a important part in the team's run to the Eastern Conference finals last seasons, notching four assists in the playoffs.

Rodriguez joins Talles Magno as the club's second Young Designated Player. With the two together, expectations are that the club's future will be solidified for years to come.

"It's a city and a club that I fell in love with," said Rodriguez when speaking about NYCFC. "We have had many success in the past couple of seasons and I hope to continue to bring happiness and silverware to the club and our fans."
